In Traditional Chinese Medicine we learn that one of our organ systems renews every month of the year. What we eat during that month supports that renewing organ system. There is a grain, bean or seed for every month and for every organ system to support it the best. You can find out more about this with this free PDF download. In February our gallbladder renews, closely followed in March by the liver. Both organ systems are closely related and have the same beneficial grain to support it – wheat and wheatgrass!

Wheat is a grain that most of us use everyday in some form or another. Wheat is the basis for most of the baked goods or processed foods we eat, even if the original wheat has been bleached, sifted to take out the bran and turned into white flour. We may think that eating the white flour products fills the need for wheat in our diet, but if so, we’re sadly mistaken. The processed white flour does nothing but harm for our bodies. We need the whole grain. But that’s a blog post for another day. Today we want to talk about what to do if you’re gluten intolerant but still want to support the renewal of these vital organ systems. The answer is simpler than you think. Instead of wheat, use wheatgrass.

Wheat and wheatgrass both come from the same plant, but they’re like cousins with very different personalities! Think of it this way: wheat is like a baked potato – filling and good for energy. Wheatgrass is like a super-charged spinach – packed with vitamins and great for cleaning house inside your body.

Basically, wheat is the grain we use to make bread, pasta, and crackers. Wheatgrass is the young green sprout of that same plant, kind of like the baby version before it turns into wheat.

What they have in common:

  • They start from the same plant.
  • They both give you nutrients, but in different ways.

What makes them different:

Why eat both?

Wheat gives you long-lasting energy and helps your digestion. Wheatgrass helps your body clean itself and boosts your immune system. It’s like having a balanced team working for your health!

Real-Life Example:

One person started drinking wheatgrass shots in the morning and eating whole-wheat bread with lunch. They said they felt more energetic, their skin looked better, and their stomach felt happier. It’s all about finding what works for you!

So, think of wheat and wheatgrass as two different ways to get goodness from the same amazing plant. One gives you energy, the other gives you a clean boost. Eating both (in moderation, of course!) can be a tasty way to help your body thrive. And if you’re gluten intolerant, you still have a great resource in wheatgrass to help support and sustain your gallbladder and liver during these vital times of the year.
