A Superfood to the Rescue

One thing we discuss in our June class, in detail, is how to really enhance brain function. This is so important to me (Jennah) because my mom had a long road of dementia, and I’d like to avoid that at all costs. So I’ll do what it takes now to protect my brain.

So let’s start with a fact. Your brain NEEDS healthy oils to function at optimal levels.

Luckily we have lots of wonderful foods that can help fuel your brain with those healthy oils, but there is one that stands out among the rest, and that is the amazing superfood, FLAX!

Is that what you were thinking?

Who has used flax before? If you have, you know it can be a little bit tricky, but it’s well worth the few minutes it takes to prepare. The dividends to your health are worth it!

Flaxseeds are edible seeds harvested from flax plants are used as a health food. Eaten for centuries by the ancient Greeks and Romans, flaxseed has reemerged as a “superfood” because of its high dietary fiber and omega-3 fatty acid content.

Flaxseeds are high in:

  • dietary fiber
  • omega 3s
  • protein
  • iron
  • calcium
  • manganese
  • thiamin
  • magnesium
  • phosphorus
  • copper

They truly are a powerhouse food! A few specific reasons to include flax in your diet:

  • Brain health, helps fight against mental disorders
  • Hormone Balance
  • Protect Villi and Microvilli (hair-like surface) of small intestine, improving digestion
  • Manage Cholesterol
  • Anti-Inflammatory

Wow! Why wouldn’t you eat flaxseed? But hang on just a second. This is one of those seeds that doesn’t any good in your body when it’s eaten whole. The seeds slip right through your digestive system, mostly unchanged.

Preparing & Eating Them

So you need to change the seed first! The best 2 methods are:

  • Soaking
  • Grinding into a “flour” of sorts

You can eat it in so many ways!

  • Added whole to salads
  • Morning cereals
  • Smoothies
  • Incorporated into baked goods
  • Ground flaxseed and water can replace eggs in baked goods.

I personally, keep some flaxseed soaking in my fridge. Enough for a few days at a time (so I don’t forget to soak it the night before). I put in into my morning protein/veggie shake. Easy peasy.

In our June Class we go over all the benefits flax plus lots of other brain foods. We don’t just go over nutrition though. Oh no. We cover movement, mindset, supplements, etc. This is a whole body, holistic approach!

AND DID YOU KNOW…that a lot of the same nutrition that helps your BRAIN also helps your REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM? (Hormones). Because hormones also need those healthy fats. This class is invaluable! Get started today, because JUNE is just around the corner!
